In brief

  • Next book club book: Raising Hare: A Memoir by Chloe Dalton

Discussion on Zoom, 7.30pm Wednesday 11 June

A book that, according to the Guardian, restores a sense of the sacred, meets animals on their own terms, and rewilds the human imagination. Read it and join our discussion - new members are warmly invited to this group. Email EcoRotherAction@outlook.com for your Zoom link.

Do check out our book reviews. You’ll find some great reading suggestions.

    South Holt Farm rewilding visit

    Sunday 8 June 9.30 – 1pm

South Holt is a 750-acre farm in the South Downs, near Finchdean, which has been run purely as a wildlife sanctuary for the last five years. ERA members have been invited by Harvey and Amanda Jones to come and see how this works. It is a very beautiful farm and visitors are guaranteed a treat.

Please email Veronica ASAP on EcoRotherAction@outlook.com if you would like to join this expedition. Uptake of places has been surprisingly slow so far.

  • Last ERA talk: Wastewater research in the Rother catchment

    29 May

    Talk by Professor John Williams

The University of Portsmouth undertakes wastewater treatment research at a unique Environmental Technology Field Station at Petersfield Wastewater Treatment works.  In this talk the station’s director, John Williams, explained the work carried out there to address the pressing current challenges around managing wastewater, such as managing nutrients in effluents and reducing combined sewer overflows.

Global issue, local response

ERA relies on membership fees - £5 a year per person – and donations to fund our activities. These include buying seeds and trees, setting up a testing system on the River Rother, running costs such as village hall hire, website costs, insurance etc. We are looking for a local business or individual to sponsor this website. If that interests you, please get in touch! Your name could appear here on the home page. Alternatively, if you would like to join others who have already made a donation towards ERA projects, please contact us for bank details. Your help makes a real difference.
