What to do with your old batteries

Our battery collecting project continues to grow with our final container finding a home in the porch of the church in Stedham. Thank you to all who have placed spent batteries in one of our collecting containers. So far we have collected 5Kg of batteries from Trotton, 11Kg from Rogate and 7.5Kg from Buriton!

Our key messages remain:

·       Spent batteries should never go in either our recycling bins or our refuse bins – once crushed in the refuse truck they are a fire hazard

·       Batteries should be recycled – any shop selling more than a packet of batteries per day is legally obliged to take back spent batteries

·       Avoid using batteries whenever possible – use rechargeable items, or rechargeable batteries

ERA’s scheme is just designed to make it easier to recycle batteries as you can now leave them locally and we will do the next bit for you. By dropping them off at a Cancer Research UK shop we also make a little money for them too.

If you live in Trotton, Rogate, Buriton or Stedham and would like to be the person who picks up your local batteries and takes them into Cancer Research, then do let me know.

Please remember, we do not take button batteries – see the chart on the front of the containers.
