Our Fluidion fund
We are currently fundraising to buy a piece of kit called a Fluidion Alert One. This will allow any river surveys that reveal significantly poor results in our area, between Petersfield and Midhurst, to be followed up by also checking the E. coli levels. Testing with a Fluidion Alert One is done by the riverside, being designed to be done by citizen scientists. High bacteria levels would be bad for the river environment but will also be of interest to wild swimmers, paddle boarders, and dog owners whose dogs swim in the river. As ever, significant results will be reported to the Environment Agency, allowing them to target their efforts where the need is greatest.
We are aiming at raising £4000 to cover initial purchase, and then use for a year, with £2000 coming from grants and the other £2000 from fund raising, including donations from local Parish Councils.
The fund raising is going really well and may I thank all of you who have already donated by one route or another. We currently have around £1500 banked, with a further £320 pledged but not yet received. We approached Parish Councils for donations if their parish either has the River Rother running through it, or whose Waste Water Treatment Works (WWTW) has an outfall that feeds into the Rother, and have been really pleased to have already received a positive response from all but one of them (the last one mislaid the email but have it on their agenda for their next meeting!).
We are holding a sponsored riverside family walk on Sunday April 6, let us know if you would like to join us, sponsor someone, or be a steward at the event!
If you would like to make a donation towards this local project then please do so by bank transfer to Eco Rother Action (it counts as a business account), sort code 60 01 13, bank account number 48390879, or contribute via our GoFundMe page. Thank you!
