National Emergency Briefing
In November 2025, more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall for the National Emergency Briefing - a landmark event bringing together leading experts to assess the UK’s exposure to climate and nature risks.
Each expert gave a brief summary of their area of expertise. All of these presentations are available on Youtube.
We at ERA are doing our best to spread this vital message. You can read our reviews of each of the sessions, and follow a link to the sessions themselves, from here.
“It’s sobering when you realise, that this is the least extreme climate you will experience in your lifetime”
This national event has now been adapted into a 50-minute public film. This is an eye-opening film featuring 9 leading UK scientists and experts updating us on the latest in the climate and nature crisis and its impact on everyday national life, together with some reaction from members of the public. Public screenings of this film have been and are still being organised all over the country. ERA organised a screening in Nyewood in June 2026. You can see a map of past and future screenings here.
Nearby screenings: Milland on 19th September, Harting on 22nd October, Petersfield on 15th September.
A petition has been raised asking for a screening of this film on National TV to make the public as a whole aware of the risks that we face and the need for urgent action. Please sign it if you agree that the threats we face need wider recognition. 100,000 signatures are needed!
With Andy Burnham entering Number 10, this is the perfect moment for a televised emergency briefing introduced by the new PM and delivered by independent experts. Can you help us secure this by signing Chris Packham’s Parliamentary petition? If you’ve already signed, please share it on WhatsApp!
The government responded to this petition when it reached 10,000 votes. You can see the response of the National Emergency committee here.
Update
Following on from our June screening of the Peoples Emergency Briefing, attended by 65 people, more attendees than any other event of ours ever, we thought the following update from the creators of the film might be of interest:
‘The film has just hit 2,400 registered screenings across the UK (and beyond!).
The initiative couldn’t be more timely: record heatwaves, unprecedented ‘firewaves’, and warnings of catastrophic UK food system collapse are a stark reminder that we are in a national emergency. Over the last few months, the film has helped change the national conversation. It’s had major press coverage, mentions in Parliament, and even been discussed by film critics Kermode and Mayo!
A total of 131 MPs have called for a televised emergency briefing and the ripples from screenings are now spreading across all sectors of society with major national companies screening to their staff.
